A bit of clear sky last night was promising but the Moon that is building up to full was a real hazard! Orion was showing well in the SE and with Sirius well clear of the horizon these nights are a good opportunity to spot the OC M41. At Magnitude 4.5 it is fairly easy to see even through the trees in our garden. While in the area I looked left for more open clusters this time - M46 and M47. M47 was easy at Magnitude 4.4 but I couldn't make out the fainter M46. I looked around to Ursa Major but again The Pinwheel and Whirlpool Galaxies were impossible due to the moonlight. A "rubbish" picture (I will improve!!) is attached - I managed to capture M44 and have put in a few constellation lines as well. I can convince myself that M67 is there too. Some of the stars are magnitude 7 - 8 (comparing with Stellarium) which pleased me. I was attempting to capture something lower down but I'm happy with anything at the moment. Monday night is looking good according to my forecast - who will attempt a Moon shot - or even Mira - still available for a while!!!!
