I arrived around 1020 and no sooner had I parked up and opened the container and getting the ramp in position than Phil turned up. We 'set up shop' with most of the 'scopes out on display plus Phil's small refraftor with solar filter on. I had brought my 4" refractor but unfortunately forgot to bring the filter so didn't set it up. It turned out to be a glorious sunny day, too sunny in fact as I got fried. The carnival itself was very low key compared to previous years with only four floats and a large inflatable slide for the children. No samba band either as they were probably booked somewhere else. Not many stalls either. However we soon had our first 'Customers' who were interested in the telescopes on view with a fair few having a look at the rather bland solar disk. I think Phil said a small sunspot appeared later in the afternoon so perhaps he can confirm. The 'Customers' became more numerous as the afternon wore on and more than a few made notes of our meeting nights and said they would come along and also to Newgale so we may well see some new faces before long. Breaking for dinner now back later. I only took a few pics and will post them when I get round to downloading from camera. Nothing exceptional just the 'scopes all set up. Hopefully the weather will be kind for the Newgale event and we will need the solar scope available for that, Jim

Thanks Jim and Phil for attending carnival, and sorry I let you down. I will try not to double book myself in future. I am sure you will be glad to hear that I also got burned to a crisp at the airshow. Will make sure to turn up at Newgale with 10 inch scope and solar filter

I remembered to put on sun tan lotion before leaving home, but still managed to get burned, not bad going considering the Sun is about as far away from us as it gets at this time of year.
