A lot of cloud and wind around 3.15 a.m. but with the Orionids being fairly bright and visible for a few seconds, I was confident of seeing a few. As it happened I managed 3 within 30 minutes - 1 vertically above me, 1 to the lower left of Orion and 1 to the right. All were visible for a few seconds and so could be followed. Curiously an airplane went through the middle of Orion at the same time. Some people never sleep. This picture from "Meteorscan" gives an indication of activity -62 meteors in the last hour. (UT used here) We looked earlier and a figure of 22 was given so things were hotting up during the night. Around 4.00 a.m. another 2 were seen - 1 in Auriga and the other left of Orion's head. Grand total now 5 in around 45 minutes. Any other sightings? Attachments:

I was aware of the orionids but conditions were very poor although I did see some small gaps in clouds but of meteors, not a single one.
however there is still time if skies permit. We live in hope.
