IMPORTANT NOTICE, PLEASE READ. The covid pandemic has devastated the Preselli Astronomy Group, the meetings we did manage to hold since 2019 had such a poor turnout they did not even cover the cost of hiring the hall, it is obvious that we cannot carry on like this. It has been decided to try and restart the group from scratch, so we will be holding a meeting at Letterston Village Hall at 19.00 on Tuesday 5th April to assess the future of the group and elect a new committee, if there is not enough interest the group will be dissolved and its assets and equipment will be offered to other astronomy clubs. Please try to attend this meeting even if you do not attend meetings regularly, as the future of the group depends on it.

Hi Phil...... just seen your post..... WOW! posted almost a week ago and not one person has replied..!
Some thoughts for the moment:
1. Where the hell is everyone ?
2. I feel strongly that the group should not be dissolved. All assets and equipment must remain with the group.
3. Yes Covid has destroyed the monthly meetings, and we all are very weary of meeting up, especially where close contact with astronomical equipment is concerned.
4. Tea and biscuits obviously not offered at the moment, also lectures have their own Covid issues.
5. So maybe time to move most of the group's activities to an online platform.
6. Why so few posts on this forum... is everyone over on FaceBook ?
Anyway.... enough waffling for now from me..
Would love to discuss further on this forum, I'm not interested in FaceBook messaging, I think FaceBook is part of the reason why astro clubs are struggling!
Will keep a look out from now on for activity on this forum..
Clear Skies Phil.... hope you and family are well
Mark ..

Hi Mark I'm not sure if, or how many members follow club notices on facebook, as i never use that thing.Very few members ever seem to log on to the forum either, so its hard to get messages out to members to arrange things like Zoom meetings. Only thing we can do is hold the open meeting in April and see if enough people turn up to work out a way forward for the future. The website is now inactive as our subscription has run out and it was decided not to use up our diminishing funds to renew until we can see a way forward. Hopefully we will get a good turnout on 5th April to enable the group to continue. Anyone seeing the notices on here , please spread the message about the meeting as wide as possible. Rich

Hi Rich,
the last time I looked on the PAG Facebook page (early December) I noticed it had about 150 members.
Out of all those members I would guess only about five regulars ever posted anything! again where is everyone.
A quick add up shows that only about 3% of the Facebook group members actually post anything.
Even with the low turnout on this forum, it would be good if a dialogue was started.
If ideas were floated on here then maybe it would pique the interest of browsers.
Would individually emailing members as to the April meeting help? Or maybe texting them?
Open meeting on April 5th is a good idea, it will give everyone a chance to gather their ideas and thoughts.
Good idea to put the website on hold.
I'll pass the word around as much as I can about the April 5th meeting.
No way is this group going to be dissolved, the county needs its Preseli Astronomy Group, now more than ever.
Catch you soon Rich
Clear Skies

Hi Mark. I will try emailing as many members as possible before 5th April, and will send a text to all that I have phone details for. We really need some new committee members, because only Phil Kingdom and myself are left of the old committee. Keep in touch Rich

Thanks Rich, hopefully the emails/texts will gather some interest.
Phil messaged me in the week, I hadn't realised it was just Phil and yourself keeping the club going!
As you say new committee members are needed, hopefully April's meeting will help with that.
Still though, where is everyone? I'm surprised no one drops by this forum to discuss the way forward for the PAG.
Yes I'll keep in touch...
Thank you Rich
Mark..
