I was having a look for Mira the other night when I stood around waiting for Geminids, I have not seen Mira even in a telescope, but I had a reasonable idea of it's position, and sure enough I could see a star at what I thought was the right place, was it Mira? given a clear moonless night again I might find out, but the lookout for the next weeks or so looks decidedly Atlantic, not much chance of a clear night there. Of secondary interest is the name itself, Mira, meaning wonderful, is also the root of the word Miracle.
