...........Well that one ticked off on the Astronomical Bucket list. I spend an hour early this afternoon watch intermittently( as cloud kept interrupting) little Mercury creeping across the fiery face of the Sun.
A stunning sight!

Nice one Geoff, that one was also on my astro bucket list, so frustrating missing it back in May 2016.
In total only had about five minutes of observing between 12.35 and 2.00. But totally worth the wait.
Glad you managed to see it....

I also managed a few short sightings between the clouds. Was surprised how small mercury is against the sun.

Here are a pair of pictures of Monday's Transit of Mercury across the Sun taken using a 600mm mirror lens and a x2 teleconverter with a Canon 70D camera and a Baader safety solar filter. The attached picture shows two views (on the left - around 12:30, on the right - around 15:30) It was surprising how small Mercury is compared to the Sun (Sorry if the picture is poor - I don't seem to beable to attach anything bigger than 1MB).
